About University of Limpopo Medical school
About Us
The School of Medicine is a newly established school within the newly reconstituted Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Limpopo. We pride ourselves of being the first medical school to be established under the new dispensation in the Republic of South Africa. This is the ninth medical school in the country.
The undergraduate curriculum was approved by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in 2014. The Council for Higher Education accrediting committees have approved the curriculum as well. The rolling out of the undergraduate curriculum is going to take place under the watchful eye of the HPCSA in the coming years.
The postgraduate students (M Med programme students) that were already based at Polokwane Campus of the University of Limpopo will be continuing with their normal academic activities in 2015 and beyond. The HPCSA Postgraduate Education and Training Committee held an inspection visit in February in 2015 to ensure the continuing integrity of programmes when the splitting of postgraduate students between the University of Limpopo and Sefako Magkatho Health Sciences University took place at the end of 2014.
