How to Apply to UFS – University of the Free State
UFS Application and Acceptance Process
Do you want to go to the University of Free State but don’t know how to apply?
Do not stress! Applying to any University can be daunting but that’s why we are here! We makes sure that applying to your university of choice is easy and hassle free.
When Should I Apply?
Applications open on the 1st of April. The closing date is the 30th of September. Please be aware that the selection programmes have their own closing dates and can be found here.
Applicants can apply online here or send a hard-copy application form in.
Applicants who wish to apply online will need a valid email address as well as their SA ID number, or passport number if you are an international applicant. Applicants may too wish to apply via hard copy, which must be sent by registered mail or courier to the address below.

Application Fee:
NOTE: Application fees are not refundable
Applicants are required to pay an application fee, except in the case of most graduates of UCT. Application fees for South African students are R215.00 and for International students are R460.00.
Method of payment:
- University Cashiers – Thakaneng Bridge (08:30-14:30), or
- Qwaqwa Campus – Administration Building (08:00-15:00), or
- Deposit the amount with ABSA, account number 1570 850 071, branch code 630 734, or
- Internet banking: Please provide the applicant’s identity or passport number as reference when paying at ABSA or via the INTERNET.
- SWIFT code for international payments: ABSAZAJJ
- Please provide the applicant’s identity or passport number as reference for all payments.
Submitting Results and Documents:
School learners must ensure that all examination results from Grade 11 until September of Grade 12 are submitted. Failure to do such may result in delays within the student’s application process. You might find that you applied early in Grade 12 and thus only sent in your final Grade 11 results. If this is true, as the year progresses and you receive more results keep sending them through to UCT, that way they will have all your results by the time finals come around.
Transferring students should too ensure that all transcripts and academic records are submitted as early as possible as well as that a final transcript of current studies being undertaken reaches the Admissions Office as soon as possible after receipt.
