Variations in Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode of delivery might be presented between these qualifications. The following qualifications (Advanced University Diplomas) are being offered:
Programmes Offered
Advanced University Diploma in Health Science: Community Nursing (G511T)
The purpose of this qualification is to develop health professionals’ with skills which will enable them to function within the multi-professional team and the ethical-legal framework by: utilising critical analytical problem-solving skills to provide comprehensive community nursing based on a scientific approach; render a preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health service; to manage a community health center with regard to human and material resources; and demonstrate leadership skills in facilitating changes in health service.
Admission requirements
You must be a professional nurse, registered with the SANC in the field of General Nursing and Midwifery and in possession of a matric certificate.
Students will be able to register in January and July of each year. However, applications can be submitted at any time of the year.
Advanced University Diploma in Health Science: Health Science Education (G512T)
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the health professional with educator skills to enable them to utilise psychology and philosophy of education in creating a context conducive to learning; apply the knowledge and skills of andragogic didactics to facilitate deep holistic lifelong learning; participate in curriculum development; utilise intra- and interpersonal life skills to facilitate relationships within the personal and professional sphere and partake in health science research.
Admission requirements
You must be a professional nurse, registered with the SANC in the field of General Nursing and Midwifery or Community Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing and in possession of a matric certificate.
Students will be able to register in January and July of each year. However, applications can be submitted at any time of the year.
Advanced University Diploma in Health Science: Health service Management (G513T)
The purpose of this qualification is to provide health professional with managerial skills to be utilised in rendering quality health care through application of risk and financial management principles; implementation of management information systems; management of human resources; management of health service Unit/Clinic; and utilisation of intra- and interpersonal life skills to facilitate relationships within personal and professional sphere.

Advanced University Diploma in Health Science: Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care (G515T)
The purpose of this qualification is to develop health professionals who will be able to function as an independent practitioner within the multi-professional team and within the ethical-legal framework by: utilising critical analytical problem-solving skills in the management of the health problems of patients; assessing, diagnosing and implementing outcomes of planned comprehensive care; communicating effectively; and undertaking research within the epidemiological framework.
Admission requirements
You must be a professional nurse, registered with the SANC in the field of General Nursing and Midwifery. Your current employer should give permission in writing to study as well as for working 960 clinical practica hours at SANC accredited clinics for NWU; and be in possession of a matric certificate. You will need study leave, this is a clinical course.
Students will be able to register only in January of each year. Applications close 31 October each year.
