Can i do matric through unisa

Unisa does not offer Matric or Matric Rewrite, what the school does is to allow students or applicants take up Bridging courses to supplement their Matric Results in order to be eligible for a certain Programme or course.

Can i do matric through unisa

    Definition

A bridging course is a university-preparation course with an academic curriculum that is offered to mature students as a means of preparing for the intellectual challenges of a university education, successful completion of which is recognized as a basis of admission to the University.

Role of Bridging Courses in the Admissions Process

For mature students with no previous post-secondary school record, completion of an approved bridging course with a grade of B or better shall be recognized as one of the bases of admission for mature students applying to undergraduate Faculties provided that other general requirements for mature student admission to the relevant Faculty have been met.

For students who have previously attended post-secondary institutions, successful completion of a bridging course is but one factor that may be considered when the entire academic record is reviewed at the time of application.

Can i do matric through unisa

    Approval of Bridging Courses

In order for the successful completion of a university-preparation course to be considered a basis of admission  the course must be approved as a bridging course through the normal route for course approval in the department, Faculty, or non-Faculty based institute offering the course. Approval should be granted only to a university-preparation course that meets the requirements set out in the regulations that follow. Academic Standards, Curriculum and Pedagogy should be informed of any decisions regarding the granting of approval of any university-preparation course. In this way, ASCP will be able to monitor decisions to ensure the consistent application of Senate policy.

    School of Hotel Management

Welcome to the world of hospitality management! It is a fascinating and rapidly changing industry that, especially in South Africa is in great need of well educated professionals.

Professionally offering hospitality calls for in-depth knowledge, skills and an appropriate attitude. That is our business. Our study programme sets out to give students precisely those attributes. Succeeding in this aim requires a good attitude to studying and appropriate study behaviour. We hold our students to account for this attitude and behaviour in and outside of the classroom. We like to see our students approach all activities with devotion and involvement and seek to treat them as the potential leaders they are. The Hospitality industry is not for everyone. It is a seven days a week and a 24 hours a day industry that requires character and flair. As a student you will experience this in our institute where we expect you to take initiative, tackle problems and take responsibility.

Whether this is an industry for you is a question only you can answer. The academic years for you as a student will be a time of discovery, challenge and excitement. Discovery: “Can I handle the programme?” “Is the Hospitality industry for me?” “What will be asked of me?” Challenge: finding your level of competence, trying to exceed your limits and learning to balance work with play. Excitement: making new friends, expanding your horizons and celebrating success. I wish you all the best on this journey!

  • Unisa welcomes Fulbright Scholar

Inspired towards Science, Engineering and Technology (I-SET) proudly welcomes Dr Tanja Karp from Texas Tech University to Unisa. She will be part of the team until June , and was welcomed by Prof Isaac Osunmakinde, Director of the School of Computing, and Kabelo Pheeha, I-SET Facilitator. I-SET is a flagship community engagement project of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) at Unisa. The aim of the project is to inspire awareness of science, engineering and technology through the fun activities of robotics.

    ISETTanjaKarp

Kabelo Pheeha (I-SET Facilitator), Dr Tanja Karp (Fulbright Scholar 2016/ ), and Prof Isaac Osunmakinde (Director: School of Computing)

Karp will be hosted by I-SET as one of ten US Fulbright Scholars to South Africa during . She is an associate professor in electrical and computer engineering from Texas Tech University (TTU), with teaching and research focused on community engagement, service learning, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education among learners and undergraduate engineering students through robotics. At TTU, she has been the organiser of the annual Get Excited About Robotics (GEAR) competition, which has grown from 20 participants to more than 1 000 participants during the last 10 years.

The Fulbright programme is the flagship international educational exchange programme sponsored by the US government and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries”. Over the past fifty years, the Fulbright programme has provided almost 300 000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential—with opportunities to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. The programme also awards grants for international faculty, professionals, and students from around the world for advanced research, university lecturing, and studies in the United States.

This visit evolved from a collaboration that started at the Engagement Scholarship Conference 2013, which was hosted at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. In 2015 and 2016, robotics teams from USA, Germany, and I-SET participated in an exploratory Virtual Robotics Competition to allow participation in an international competitive challenge without having the constraint of the cost of travel. It is envisaged that this initiative will be enhanced and expanded to reach a wider community of robotics learners, currently constrained by distance and resources.

During her stay at Unisa, Karp will be participating in the facilitation of I-SET robotics workshops at science expos, including the 2016 SKA national science week, the SAASTA Techno Youth Programme, TechnoX and Scifest. She will also facilitate the presentation of a new I-SET short learning programme, namely Practical Experience of Engineering and Programming.

A lively exchange of experience between I-SET leaders and professionals in both countries will be part of her visit, especially pertaining to successes in creating interest in science, engineering, and technology through community engagement and robotics. She looks forward to interacting with Unisa students and learners in I-SET robotics workshops. It is the goal of I-SET and Karp that this collaboration continues beyond her stay in South Africa and will result in new international initiatives and opportunities.
