In 2026, we would like to welcome Anel Engelbrecht and Michael du Toit onto our full-time admin staff. Anel will assist in Administration and Finance, and Michael will assist in Resources. May this year be a wonderful one for each of these new staff members.

We trust that this will help simplify things and that your studies this year will be greatly beneficial.

    INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

An international applicant is a person who is not a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa. The higher education institutions of KwaZulu- Natal welcome applications from international applicants for their formal degree, diploma and certificate programmes. Some institutions also offer the opportunity of study in South Africa for one semester or one year. Durban University of Technology and the University of KwaZulu-Natal cannot accept international applicants into their access programmes.

    Where to send your application

If you are applying for short-term study apply directly to the institution.

This price will rise from 1 April 2008. Registered refugees and asylum seekers and others with Residence Permits allowing them to study do not require Study Permits.

    Costs

Institutions can advise on the fees charged to international students and the cost of living. All international students are required by the South African government to take out private healthcare insurance, which can normally be arranged through the institution you are attending. Make sure you are insured for the whole period of study. You will not get subsidised treatment in South African government hospitals. If you are not sponsored by a South African organisation or citizen, you will have to deposit cash or a bank guarantee equivalent to the airfare ENTRY 2009 131 to your country of origin. Admission Requirements

    LEANER A (TVET College)

    • He/She starts at Level 2- Will be studying Electrical Infrastructure Construction
    • He/She progresses to Level 3
    • He/She progresses to Level 4
    • Every level the learner passes we issue them with a certificate

    LEANER B (Conventional Schooling)

    • He/She will be in Grade 10- Will be studying Caps curriculum
    • He/She progress to Grade 11
    • He/She progresses to Grade 12
    • Each grade they pass they get a report

The above compares the two learners. The one at an TVET will be studying exactly what the industry is looking for and the one in conventional schooling will be studying generic curriculum which is not necessarily responsive to the industry. After both of them finishes their studies should a Job opportunity arises, the one who stands a better chance of getting employment, is the one who have studied through an TVET because he/she would have studied what would be relevant to the industry.

The same happens in a case where they both want to pursue the same course at a university or university of technology. There one who will have difficulty in their first year of tertiary will be the one who is from grade 12.
