2026 University of Cape Town Undergraduate Application Form

    Application procedure

The following guidelines may be useful when you apply to UCT:

    When to apply

Applications open on 1 May and close on 31 August for admission in 2026. Please try to submit your application as soon as possible. We do not consider late applications.

    Application Fees

An application fee must be paid for every application. UCT students and graduates, as well as Semester Study Abroad (SSA) applicants, are exempt from the application fee unless applying to a Graduate School of Business (GSB) programme. Please refer to the fee structure for more information.

    Submitting results and documents

Current learners at school must make sure that all examination results from Grade 11 until September of grade 12 are submitted. Failure to submit these results may result in delays.

Transferring students should submit all transcripts and academic records as early as possible.

Documents must be submitted as certified electronic copies to admissions-ug@uct.ac.za (undergraduate applicants) or admissions-pg@uct.ac.za (postgraduate applicants). Please do not send your submissions to both email addresses as this will only delay the processing of your application.

    Monitor your application

When we update your application, you will receive an email communication. Please monitor your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that we will send you after you apply. We are not permitted to disclose your application status telephonically.

    Application Forms

Please see the ‘Directions for Postgraduate Applicants’ document for closing dates for various postgraduate applications. They are also listed on the online applications site.

You may apply online. In order to apply online you will need a working email address and your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number.

If you are unable to apply online, you may submit a paper application. Completed undergraduate application forms must be sent to admissions-ug@uct.ac.za with the subject line “2026 UCT Application Form” before the closing date of 31 August 2026. • NMMU Registration

    What is Pre-Registration?

Pre-registration is the process of double-checking that all international students have submitted all of their relevant documents to the Office for International Education, and that they are on record in their student files. Students must report to the venue indicated on their list of important dates and at the time indicated. They are required to bring original copies of all their documents.

    Required Documents

    • Original school-leaving certificates and proof of birth date (original birth certificates), indicating compliance with Matriculation Exemption requirements.
    • Valid passport with a valid study permit.
    • Proof of payment of tuition fees in full and prescribed portion of Residence fees or proof of sponsorship.
    • Proof of medical insurance coverage.
    • IELTS or TOEFL results (applicable to non-English speaking degree students only).
    • Transcripts of academic records.

    What is Registration?

Registration is the formal confirmation of the acceptance of an admitted applicant to a specific course of study at the university, after successful compliance with the minimum registration requirements.

What requirements must a student meet to be registered?

    • The specific Faculty requirements have to be met.
    • The registration form (blue) has to be signed by the student and the Faculty Officer.
    • All fees need to be paid before registration.
    • The Access Assessment must be completed before registration. Test results may be used for development or streaming purposes during registration.

What proof of registration does a student receive?

At registration after a student has been registered he/she will receive the following:

    • Proof of registration form where all modules and fees are indicated
    • A laminated student card
    • An individual time-table

What does a student need to do if he/she wants to change degrees or modules?

    • Form 11 must be completed. This form can be obtained from the Office for International Education.
    • The student must indicate if a module must be added or deleted and indicate why.
    • The form must be signed by the student and the relevant Faculty Officer.
    • If the change involves a change of Faculty the student must be aware that they may need to sit for the Access Assessment Battery, as part of their admissions requirements to the new Faculty e.g. if a student who was previously registered in the Arts Faculty wishes to change to a BCom degree (a degree in theEconomic and Building Sciences Faculty) the student will need to provide Mathematics results.
    • The Dean of the relevant Faculty then considers the student’s request together with all the information contained in his/her file and his/her test results, in making the admissions decision.

The results of this decision are then communicated to the admissions officer, who then contacts the student to inform him/her of the results.

Please Note: Registration takes place between the end of January and the beginning of February. There is also a registration session in July for students arriving mid-year.

  • UNISA College of Law Entry Requirements

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen qualification and college. Meeting these minimum requirements does not, however, mean that your application will automatically be accepted, as each application will be considered individually.

If you don’t meet the minimum admission requirements…

If you don’t meet the minimum admission requirements for your qualification of choice, you might want to consider starting with a relevant lower-level qualification (eg a higher certificate or diploma) and then continuing with the degree on completion of your lower-level qualification. Work through the admission requirements for each level of qualification (eg degree, diploma and higher certificate) to determine whether you will be able to apply for a lower-level qualification related to your interests. Remember to keep in mind your career vision and goals, and how any qualification will contribute to these.

Identifying other study options if you don’t meet the admission requirements for your qualification of choice

It may be that you do not meet the admission requirements for any qualification at Unisa. You now need to explore options to help you meet the admission requirements for your chosen qualification, or you could reconsider your career goals and how you will plan your career.

Applying for credits from other higher education institutions

Unisa may recognise previous learning from previous formal education. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Not all credits achieved at other institutions will count towards a Unisa qualification. Your request for exemption(s) will only be considered once we have received your completed DSAR04 form and a certified copy of an official academic record, a conduct certificate and, in some cases, the syllabus. In the case of international qualifications, SAQA evaluation and the syllabus are required. No exemptions will be finalised on an academic record during the application period.
You must meet the admission requirements for the qualification for which you are applying for credits and/or exemptions. A maximum of 50% of the prescribed credits may be awarded in the form of credits and exemptions. No exemptions will be granted for Unisa’s signature modules. Unisa reserves the right to grant and/or decline applications for exemptions or credit transfers.

Once we have received you application, an interview will then be set up for you with our Principal, Rev. Mark Dickson, or a person nominated by him.

The deadline for submission of applications is mid-September, but the sooner you apply the better as it does take some time to get everything in order. For non-South Africans, we advise early application since it can take several months to acquire a study permit from the South African government.

Should you have looked at the Entrance Requirements and are still uncertain as to whether you qualify for entrance to GWC, please contact the Assistant Registrar, Mrs Lulu Jampies at ljampies@gwc.ac.za

We hope all this information will help you as you prayerfully consider your options.
