    AFDA Admission Requirements

    FIRST YEAR: Just Starting Out
    The minimum requirement to enter an AFDA Bachelors degree is a National Senior Certificate (matric) or National Certificate (Vocational) with exemption/admission to bachelor’s degree, or equivalent.

    OR the student may write an Entrance Exam at AFDA (View RPL Process). The AFDA Entrance Exam is a selection process approved by AFDA Senate for degree access. To give a candidate alternative access to degree, s/he can sit for the Entrance Exam and there must be record of it, the recommendation on the individual student from the registered psychometrist must be signed off by Senate or its subcommittee, as per AFDA Entrance Exam policy (in accordance with Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997) Amendment No 1317 in Government Gazette of 5 Dec 2008 number 31674 clause 31). Such access will apply only to AFDA’s programmes, its entrance exam is not valid to another university, and vice versa.

    Requirements for Botswana campus
    The minimum requirement to enter an AFDA Bachelors degree is BGCSE, IGCSE, O Level, with a minimum credits accumulation of 34 points for all degree or A Level.

    SECOND YEAR: Recognised Prior Learning
    You need to have completed your first year degree studies at a recognised institution and have a portfolio or evidence of work to motivate your discipline choices. You will also have to have a full interview.

    Higher Certificate in Film, Television and Entertainment Production
    The minimum requirement to enter the AFDA HC Course is BGCSE with 25-29 points.

    Undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (BA): Four years in Motion Picture Medium or in Live Performance
    The minimum requirement to enter an AFDA Bachelors degree is BGCSE, IGCSE, O Level or A level, with a minimum credits accumulation of 30 points.

The AFDA Botswana fourth year programmes are two top-up Honours degrees (in Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) which stand alone from the AFDA BA degrees, and can top up the prior learning of a diverse cohort, to meet the needs of the Botswana NHRDS and EDD.     The Management of the South African Nursing Council has stated that all Applicants are to take notes of these Admission Requirements before Applying for Admission.

    All applicants starting a new qualification must upload all the required documents, which generally consists of the following:

    • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
    • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
    • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID / passport (international students)
    • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
    • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

    South African Nursing Council Admission Requirements

    Below are the South African Nursing Council Admission Requirements. Applicants are to read carefully before they put in an application.

    South African Nursing Council General Notes

    Prospective students must meet the statutory minimum requirements based on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent school leaving certificate for admission to higher certificate or diploma programmes and candidates educational certificate.

    • Provisional admission will be based on levels/symbols obtained in Grade 12 June/September examinations or confirmation that study leave is being processed by the current employer. However the final decision for studying at South African Nursing Council will be based on final Grade 12 results, confirmation that the applicant has been granted study leave by the employer and has not reached the pensionable age (55-60) applicable to all college programmes;
    • There are specific requirements for all specific programmes. The Admission Point System (APS) is used for allocating point values to your NSC subjects or equivalent:

    For example, to register for a Basic Diploma you need an APS of at least 18 with a NSC/equivalent pass of Biology/Life Science at Level 4 or D Symbol and English at Level 3 or E Symbol Aggregate:

    Applicants have to meet the requirements for admission into the Diploma as she is above 18 points 

    • There are limits to the number of students that can be admitted to each programme as this is dependent on the accredited capacity of the South African Nursing Council. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance or automatic registration to the specified programme. Candidates will be required to undergo testing and interviews as a means to further screen candidates.
    • Candidates in possession of health related post matric experience/certificate will be registered as per the identified quota for that group as specified below:
      • Scholars: 50%
      • Candidates with pre-NSC Grade 12 certificate: 20%
      • Candidates with health related post matric experience/certificate: 10%
      • Serving Officers: 20%
    • Please note that admission requirements are subject to change and the college:
        • will invest heavily in nurses for ECDoH facilities;
        • will not invest in candidates that have attempted other avenues for example dropped out of universities/technikons/colleges and;
        • will not invest in candidates that are in possession of other qualifications. Should this be discovered at any stage during the process, the candidate will be disqualified.

    National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) Guidelines

    Subject to institutional admission requirements, the minimum admission requirement to a Bachelor’s degree programme is a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 issued by Council for General and Further Education and Training. The minimum legislative requirements for admission to a Bachelors degree include the achievement of:

    • Three (3) fundamental subjects between 60 – 69% (3) (including English as the language of learning and teaching at Wits)
    • Three (3) vocational subjects from the designated list between 70 – 79% (4).

    The University of the Witwatersrand’s institutional requirements are:

    An applicant who holds an NCV may be invited to write a test, provided that he/she has met the following compulsory institutional requirements as well as the Faculty and degree-specific requirements. An applicant must have:

    • Taken English as either Language of Learning and Teaching or as the First Additional language
    • Taken Mathematics as a Fundamental Component
    • Achieved 70 – 79% (4) for all seven subjects – in fundamental and vocational categories.

    1GENERAL APPLICATION INFORMATION

    1.1University of Limpopo paper-based applications open on 06 March 2026.

    1.2Each prospective student must complete only one application form. On the application form, kindly indicate your first and second choice in terms of what you wish to study.

    1.3Once your application form has been processed, you will receive an acknowledgment letter and / or SMS, with a reference number.

    1.4If on the basis of the results you submitted (either Grade 11; Grade 12, etc.) you are deemed to be meeting the minimum entry requirements for the programme you wish to study for, you will be issued with a provisional acceptance letter, which merely says you will be accepted into the programme, subject to your final National Senior Certificate results.

    1.5Receiving either an acknowledgment letter or provisional acceptance letter does not imply that you have been accepted by the University of Limpopo yet. Admission is a separate process that your application undergoes after being evaluated by the relevant Faculty.

    HOW TO FILL IN THE APPLICATION FORM?

    2.1The form must be completed in full.

    2.2The paper-based application form, when submitted, must be accompanied by:

    ŸAll relevant supporting documents (ID Copy, NSC Results, etc.) NB: all documents must be certified.

    ŸProof of bank payment fee of R220 for South African students and R330 for international students.

    Application Fees

    Applicants are required to pay an application fee before their application form can be processed. All applicants must attach a copy of the proof of payment to their application form, as well as keep the original proof of payment just in case, or else, upload the original deposit slip to the system.

    • TUT application fee: R 240

    You may pay the application fee via a direct bank deposit, or via EFT (electronic payment), or by postal order.

    • TUT confirmation fee: R 500

    This confirmation fee is a deposit that you need to pay once you receive your letter of acceptance.

    • TUT upfront registration fee: R 1500 (or R1000 if you have already paid the deposit)

    When you register, you need to pay this registration fee upfront. This will only be refunded if you don’t qualify for studies at TUT anymore, or if you have been excluded from your studies.

    31 July Agriculture: Animal Production, Agriculture: Commercial Mixed Farming, Agriculture: Crop Production, Agriculture: Development and Extension, Analytical Chemistry, Architecture: Professional , Dental Assisting, Biomedical Technology, Biokinetics, Biotechnology, Business Communication, Clinical Technology, Economic Management Analysis, Engineering: Civil, (B Tech’s), Engineering: Chemical, Engineering: Metallurgical, Environmental Health, Fire Technology, Geology, International Communication, Journalism, Legal Assistance, Nature Conservation, Nursing, Officiating and Coaching Science, Project Management, Public Relations Management, Quality, Sport and Exercise Technology, Somatology, Three-Dimensional Design, Veterinary Technology, all qualifications in the Arts Faculty and Education.
