    South African Child's Passport

    Child passports are issued to children who are fifteen years and below. These passports are not renewable. On their expiry, applications for new passports will have to be filed.

    Checklist of Documents to be Submitted:

    Application forms plus supporting documentation must be submitted in duplicate. Please ensure that you have two sets of the application: 1) the original application form(s) with supporting documents, and 2) a copy of the whole set.

    • DHA-529 Determination of citizenship. This form must be completed by all applicants
    • DHA-73 Passport Application Form. Please note that both parents should sign the DHA 73. If either parent cannot sign, a letter of consent in a form of affidavit and certified/notarized copy of ID will be accepted. If either parent cannot be in attendance, a letter of consent in a form of affidavit and certified/notarized copy of ID will be accepted.

      If divorced and sole parental rights and responsibilities in regard to guardianship have not been granted to one parent, the child and both parents should sign the application form when the application is submitted.

      If a parent is deceased, his or her death certificate and a copy thereof must accompany the application for passport.

      In the case of minors born out of wedlock, the biological father’s consent will also be required if any of the circumstances as outlined in Section 21 of the Children’s Act, 1995, are applicable, the child and both parents should be in attendance when the application is submitted.

      If the applicant is in the care of a guardian other than the parents, proof of High Court’s appointment must accompany the application.

      If a parent cannot be located or refuses to consent, or a dispute concerning consent arises, the matter should be referred to the Children’s Court. The Court’s decision must be submitted with the application for the passport.

    • Notarized Copy of South African Passport;
    • Letter of permission to issue a passport. To be submitted in cases when parents of the child concerned are divorced and only one has physical custody. The parent not having custody but allowed by the court to have access to the child can provide the requested letter of permission. In terms of South African passport regulations, the parent who has sole custody and guardianship can sign passport applications of their children on their own.
    • Four (4) passport size (2″ x 2″) photos. Please note that color photos which comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for passports photo images are required for South African passport applications. Please ensure that your mouth is closed and your teeth are not showing on the photo. Passport applications in which the photo and signature images do not meet quality standards will be rejected causing delays in the issuance of passports.
    • Attention New York Applicants: The South African Consulate General in New York will no longer accept prepaid envelope/labels from FedEx and UPS with immediate effect. Applicants are welcome to enclose only USPS self-addressed, pre-paid courier envelope for this office to facilitate return services.

    POSTGRADUATES

    Master’s and doctoral degrees by research candidates can apply at any time of the year – application is free in 2026/2027. Postgraduate applicants must also complete the relevant Postgraduate form (U24) in addition to the standard Postgraduate application form.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE

    You may apply by following one of these routes:

    1. Request an application form by emailing a request to admissions@nmmu.ac.za or info@nmmu.ac.za, providing your postal address. The application package will then be posted to your postal address; or
    2. Request the application form by phoning (041) 504 1111; or
    3. Personally collect an application form from any of the Admissions Enquiries counters, on South Campus, Missionvale Campus and George Campus;

     

    • Postgraduate applicants must also complete the relevant Postgraduate form in addition to the standard Postgraduate application form (which can be found on the right-hand side of this page). For information on postgraduate programmes, please consult the General Information and Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes.
    • Make sure you have paid the Application fees, before submitting your application form (see below for methods of payment).
    • Your application form must be accompanied by (i) a certified copy of your final Grade 11 report and (ii) a most recent Grade 12 report (No March results) or if you have already passed the matriculation examination, a certified copy of your matriculation certificate or results as well as certified copies of diploma/degree certificates and academic records for postgraduate applications.
    • Either an acknowledgement letter or outcome of your admission will be sent to you within 10 working days during April to June. During the period leading up to the closing dates stipulated above the turnaround time will be 14 – 20 working days.
    • If your admissions points do not meet the entry requirements for your chosen programme, you may be requested to write an access assessment test.

    • The outcome of your application will be conveyed to you via letter posted to your postal address. If we have your correct cell phone number, an SMS will also be sent to your cell phone.
    • If you are provisionally admitted you will receive an Orientation Booklet together with registration information in November/December.
    • Final acceptance is subject to your final NSC results meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen programme.
    • You can use one of the following methods to pay application fees:
      • Money order (purchased at a post office)
      • Postal order (purchased at a post office)
      • Cheque. The cheque must be crossed and marked “not transferable”.
      • Cashiers: payment can be made personally at the university.
      • Please do not send cash in the post.

    Applicants who have studied at other tertiary institutions

    • In order to ensure adequate time for processing, assessment testing and planning by NMMU and yourself, applications for admission in 2026/2027 should be submitted by 4 August 2026 – No application fee for South African applicants
    • Late applications will be considered after this date based on academic merit until 31 October 2026– No application fee for South African applicants.
    • Submit together with your application form, a certified copy of your official academic record and certificate of conduct as well as a certified copy of your school leaving certificate.
    • Should you be applying for module exemptions, download the module exemption form and complete it and note that there is a module exemption fee to be paid before the exemption can be processed. You must attach copies of module outlines/syllabus.

    Sekhukhune TVET College has two campuses namely CN Phatudi Campus and CS Barlow Campus

    Sekhukhune Further Education and Training College is a South African Public institution accredited by Umalusi (the body responsible for quality assurance of programmes offered at the general and TVET institutions) and governed by Further Education and Training Colleges Act (FETC Act no 16 of 2006).     Undergraduate Application Procedures for First Time South African Applicants
     Semester 1: January 2026
    • If you are a South African citizen and currently in Grade 12 or have completed.
      your National Senior Certificate or Senior Certificate and have never studied at UKZN before,
      you have to make application to UKZN by completing a Central Application Office (CAO)
      application form.

    • If you are currently registered (or have been registered) at another institution for undergraduate studies and wish to apply for a transfer to UKZN, you must also complete the CAO application form.

Only limited programmes will consider first time applicants for entry into semester 2.  Applications for semester 2 will only be considered if minimum requirements are met and  if spaces are available.

    • The UKZN charges a late fee of R400 for applications received after the closing dates.  Not all qualifications will accept late applications. Programmes may consider late applications only if spaces are available and if entrance requirements are met.
